Week 7

Dear Mountain Community,

Our first play of the year was a great success. Mr. Aldridge, Ms. Casey Moroso and the 6th graders wowed audiences with their performance of "Hatshepsut, Queen of Denial". All students, TK-5th grade, attended their final performance on Friday. Many of out 6th graders have been performing at Mountain since they were in Kindergarten. It's such a pleasure to see this amazing tradition continue year after year. A big shout out to the Parent's Club for fundraising for the arts and to Mountain Staff for your energy and enthusiasm for putting together these performances. Now, the 6th graders are off to Science Camp for the week!

Looking forward to seeing you all Friday evening for Movie Night, another awesome annual tradition sponsored by Mountain Parent Club.

Have a great week!

Best,
Megan

Mountain LIONs Stand Up to Bullying

At Mountain Elementary School, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, respected, and valued. To this end, we take evidence of bullying very seriously.

Bullying can take many forms, including physical, verbal, and social aggression, and involves a real or perceived power or status imbalance between the person doing the bullying and the victim. Bullying can have a profound impact on a child’s emotional and academic well-being. We believe that every student has the right to learn in a supportive atmosphere and that it is our collective responsibility—staff, students, and families—to stand against bullying behavior.

In addition to addressing incidents of bullying when they come to our attention, we are dedicated to building a culture of inclusion within our school community. This means promoting kindness, empathy, and respect among all students. Through various initiatives, including classroom discussions and activities, assemblies and a restorative discipline model that addresses harm caused by bullying, we are teaching our students the importance of understanding and celebrating our differences, and that teasing, joking, and singling out students for how they look, their background or their abilities, has no place at Mountain Elementary.

We want all students to recognize that each individual person at Mountain brings unique strengths and perspectives to our community, regardless of their background, race, religion or ability level. We also encourage families to engage in conversations at home about kindness and inclusion. By reinforcing these messages, you can help us create a supportive environment that empowers students to stand up against bullying and to be allies to one another.

If you or your child ever witness or experience bullying, please do not hesitate to reach out to a teacher or to me. Together, we can ensure that Mountain Elementary School remains a safe and nurturing place for all.

Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a better place for every student.
Sincerely,

Mountain Elementary School District Board of Trustees has adopted policies related to bullying, linked here:

Baby Beckman Diaper Drive

As many of you know, our beloved Mrs. Beckman is having a baby boy in just a few weeks. To show her how much she and her family are loved in our community, we are collecting diapers and wipes so she is well stocked when her baby boy makes his arrival.

If you'd like to donate, please bring items to the office!

Thanks You!!!

School Committees

MESD has three important committees that meet throughout the year and we need parents like YOU to consider joining and lending your time to support our school.

  1. Budget Committee: The Budget Committee is comprised of 2 teachers, 2 trustees and 2-3 parents. Members of this committee give input and insight to the Superintendent about the district budget, and get a detailed look at how school funding works and how small districts like ours manage the many mandates and requirements with a limited budget. If you have budgeting experience, or are just curious about where school funding comes from and how it's allocated, this is the committee for you. We meet 4 times per year ahead of important budget cycles. Meetings are approximately one hour. First meeting of the year is September 30 @ 3:30 p.m. via zoom
  2. Safety snd Facilities: The Safety and Facilities Committee is comprised of 2 teachers, 1 trustee and 2-3 parents. This committee focuses on school safety as well as the care and keeping of our school facilities. Members annually review our Comprehensive School Safety Plan as well as the School Accountability Report Card which detail our policies related to bullying, crime and the procedures we have in place to keep kids safe from fire, earthquakes or other threats to safety. Additionally this year the committee will be finalizing our Facilities Master Plan which is a crucial step in securing stae funding for new classrooms and playgrounds. First meeting is September 8 @ 3:30 via zoom.
  3. School Site Council: This group meets to discuss many topics of importance including curriculum, student performance, special programs, and reviews our annual LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan). Members give valuable input to the superintendent about the programs at Mountain and help shape the vision on the district. First Meeting September 16 @ 3 p.m. in the PAC.

No experience is necessary to be on any committee- all we ask is that you bring an open mind, a willingness to ask questions and be committed to serving for the year.

We will discuss meeting time and location at our first meeting.

Get Involved

As the school year gets underway, we encourage new and returning parents to become involved with the many volunteer opportunities available at school. Volunteering in the classrooms and at recess, being part of the variety of school activities and committees organized through the school, and taking an active role in the Parent Club are all ways to make a positive contribution in meeting our collective mission of continuous school improvement. Our first-class Parents’ Club continues to enhance our small school with generous gifts of time, financial support, and all around ‘can-do’ dedication to our students and staff.

Please sonsider volunteering at Mountain. The first step is to complete the Volunteer Form. If you are new to Mountain or have never volunteered before, complete the NEW Volunteer Form.
If you are a repeat volunteer, complete the
Only NEW volunteers need to get fingerprinted. Once we receive the completed form we'll send the paperwork for fingerprints.

Thanks in advance!
